Global Warming

On 24 January, National Museum Cardiff hosts a lecture as part of the launch of the Earth Science Education Forum (Cymru), a major new initiative to coordinate the interests and works of all relevant groups interested in promoting Earth Science education throughout Wales.

The lecture 'Global Warming – Past, Present and Future' will be given by Professor Paul Pearson of Cardiff University. Professor Pearson's interests are the extraction of climatic information from deep sea cores and sediments, and specialising in evolutionary and geochemical studies and what they tell us about the long history of climate changes on Earth.

The lecture will emphasise the ways in which geoscientists use the geological record to interpret past climates and build models of climatic change through time, as guides to present and future climatic change.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is well known on the international stage for the quality and relevance of its displays and exhibitions. It is also a major science institution – a fact that is perhaps far less well known, although the major display 'Evolution of Wales' is one of the best displays of earth history anywhere.

Less well known certainly is the fact that the Museum is also a centre of significant research in Earth and Natural Sciences. The Museum is heavily engaged in the promotion of public awareness relating to scientific themes and has recently published four major publications related to contemporary issues in this field.

The Museum's vision for the future includes the wish to inform and debate contemporary issues of importance as one of its main priorities over the next few years.

National Museum Cardiff is one of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales's seven national museums across Wales. The others are St Fagans: National History Museum, National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon, Big Pit: National Coal Museum, Blaenafon, National Wool Museum, Dre-fach Felindre, National Slate Museum, Llanberis and the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea. Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is the new name for the National Museums & Galleries of Wales.

Entry to all national museums is free, thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.
