And All That Jazz

THE New Year has got off to a flying start for the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea with more than 53,000 visitors flocking to the attraction since it opened in October - and there’s more good news on the way.

A jazz café-bar is due to open shortly at the £33.5 million venue. It means three of the four units will be occupied and there is a firm interest in the fourth.

Surf giant Rip Curl was the first to set up home at the hi-tech building followed by Fresco, a company specialising in Italian ice cream, which is due to open this month. Now Coffee Cesso, which also has an outlet on Brynymor Road will open in Spring.

The £33.5 million attraction, which tells the story of industry and innovation in Wales over the last 250 years is already attracting thousands of visitors to the Maritime Quarter.

Its storylines are delivered using modern techniques and the use of computer-driven technology and combines the past and the future through a series of themed exhibits and a range of large and small objects.

As an added attraction, special events and activities have been staged at the site which also has a Museum gift shop and cafeteria.

Head of the Museum Steph Mastoris is delighted with the start to the New Year.

“We started the New Year with all systems go. Three out of the four units have now been let and opening soon and there is strong interest in the remaining unit.

“It was quite a busy Christmas for us and it means we are ahead of our visitor targets.”
