Scorching Science

Leatherback turtles in Wales? Never! Nature Detectives and An Evening with the Stars are just three of the events on offer with Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales during Science Week this year between 11-19 March. There is something for everyone!

A series of activities discovering beautiful minerals, making paint from the strangest things and exploring colour communication in animals will be on offer throughout the week at the National Museum Cardiff. Or if playing a nature detective sounds like fun to you, then come along and take part in I-Spy games about biodiversity, linked to our special current touring exhibition.

How to attract wildlife to your garden will be explored at St Fagans, National History Museum. Visit the Ty Gwyrdd, our centre for sustainable living and find out how to attract nature’s gardeners into your plot. And the question being asked at Big Pit: National Coal Museum is what makes coal such an important commodity? Find out about the science of coal, try your hand at our exciting experimentsm and handle real coal measure fossils.

Or why not visit the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea where everyone has gone mad for science! Be a part of the FameLab where scientists compete to tell us something amazing in just 5 minutes to win a place in the competition’s final. Be the first to see the science presenters of the future. Find out how to use a telescope by looking at stars on our Museum balcony and join our turtle specialist for a fascinating insight into Swansea and Cork’s research into local turtles and the methods they use to track them around the globe.
