Something For Everyone At National Museum Cardiff This June

There's complete contrast at National Museum Cardiff this month with two very different exhibitions opening to the public.

Faces of Wales is a major exhibition of portraits and sculpture of people who have contributed to the cultural, political and economic face of Wales over the past 400 years. Recent acquisitions displayed for the first time include Ronald Moody's bronze of Paul Robeson along with the first AXA Art Photographic Portrait Commission, showing two leading Welsh figures, Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams and author, Sarah Waters.

In complete contrast to this is Death in Wales: 4000-3000 BC, which takes a look at the remains of people who built Wales' earliest monuments.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is also playing a major part in the Festival of Muslim Cultures, collaborating with a host of other venues in the UK to promote a series of exhibitions, community displays, family events, music, talks and debates. One of the Festival's highlights for us in Cardiff is the exhibition Somali Elders: Portraits from Wales. This display of powerful colour photographic portraits by Glenn Jordan brings us face-to-face with the largely unseen history and presence of the Somali community in Wales.

So, from the world of art to archaeology, and the multicultural world of our capital city, there is something for everyone here at National Museum Cardiff this month.

As if this wasn't enough, there's always something interesting going on at Glanely Discovery Gallery including the opportunity to examine real fossils of plants that were around when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

The art galleries at National Museum Cardiff are currently being redeveloped and renovated. Some galleries will be shut to the public temporarily while building work is taking place. The museum remains open to the public throughout the refurbishment, with a diverse public programme of exhibitions, displays and events during 2006 and throughout our Centenary in 2007.
