Crafty Slatey Fun this Summer!

24 July – 1 September 2006

If you're looking for some fun family activities this summer then head for the National Slate Museum in Llanberis. With a packed programme of activities ranging from decorating a picture frame with slate mosaic through colouring a slate to using the Art Cart Package and badge making, there's something to suit every age and taste!

“We find that many families and visitors spend a great deal of time here at the Museum visiting our main attractions such as the Quarrymen's Houses, the giant waterwheel and the slate splitting and dressing', explained Celia Parri, Education officer at the Museum.

“These activities are organized with all the family in mind, so that they can spend time here together, discover different bits of the Museum and make something special to take home as well as enjoying entertainment that contains a bit of education and culture in the mix. All the sessions are designed for dropping in so there's no need to book!”

As well as the crafts programme, the Museum has lots of nooks and crannies to explore – such as the pattern lofts, where you can see over 2,000 wooden patterns once used to create tools and parts for the slate industry. You can get up close to the giant waterwheel and take a peek inside the Quarrymen's Houses and their gardens. Also throughout the summer you can see the Museum's very own locomotive – UNA - in steam up and down the yard, every Wednesday in August!
