Looking for an alternative night out? Take a Bat Walk at St Fagans: National History Museum

2006-09-07Forget the cinema, a meal at your favourite restaurant or an evening in front of the television. St Fagans: National History Museum is offering you a different way to spend your Friday night – a Bat Walk.
An organised walk will take place at St Fagans on Friday, 8 September 2006 at 7:30pm, giving visitors the opportunity to track down our furry friends – bats which live on site.
Participants will be given an introduction to the mammals before venturing out around the open air museum to find the bats in their natural habitat, and learn how best to protect them.
A total of 17 species of bat currently live in the UK, the majority of which are either endangered or threatened by extinction. “St Fagans is home to several bat species including the Lesser Horseshoe Bat, which is rare to the British Isles,” explains Danielle Cowell, National Project Officer, Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales.
“The bat walk is a very popular event, which is suitable for the whole family. Visitors get the opportunity to use bat detectors and listen to the magical songs of the local bats. We encourage those taking part to bring a torch and flask with them, wear sensible shoes and be prepared for an evening of fun and adventure.”
