If you want to find out more about the history of the Welsh language in Swansea - then a visit to the National Waterfront Museum is a must.

A special display which is part of a two year project has been put together by Menter Iaith, Abertawe. It is part of a larger project examining and recording the history of the Welsh language  carried out at eight Mentrau Iaith across Glamorgan.

A grant of £50,000 from the Lottery Heritage Fund enabled the work to be carried out.

In Swansea the history of the Welsh language over the past 100 years was examined, looking specifically at the Eisteddfod and the development of Welsh Medium Education in the area.

The findings of each project went on display at the Eisteddfod held in Swansea last year and are now due to be exhibited at the National Waterfront Museum from 16 January to the middle  of February. Further information can be found on www.morgannwg.org

Jennifer Stewart, HLF Manager for Wales said: "The Welsh language is fundamental to our heritage and this project is a really fantastic way of raising awareness in local communities of our local linguistic heritage."

The National Waterfront Museum is part of Amgueddfa Cymru,  Museum Wales.
