New appointment signifies new chapter at National Wool Museum

Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales has appointed experienced museum curator Ann Whittall to manage one of its seven sites, the National Wool Museum in Dre-fach Felindre.

Previously Curatorial Officer and a key member of the team at the National Wool Museum, which proudly hosts Wales's national textile collection, Mrs Whittall has been selected for the role of Museum Manager. Starting in her new role as Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales begins its centenary celebrations, she will be responsible for the future growth of the site and the promotion of its collections.

Mrs Whittall from Llanelli will bring to the role her experience as a Curator at the Natural History Museum in London and the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, where she worked after completing a degree in Applied Biology and an MA in Museum Studies from the University of London.

She was enticed back to Wales five years ago and joined the team at the National Wool Museum - the museum which tells the tale of the woollen industry in Wales. Heavily involved in the redevelopment of the site in 2004, Mrs Whittall has extensive knowledge of the Museum and recognises its potential to play an even greater role within the local community.

"I have close connections with the Museum and have seen it progress significantly over the past two years since it re-opened in 2004," said Mrs Whittall. "I look forward to continuing this work but also to making my own mark through building on our relationship with the local community and with other working outlets, and importantly to putting Welsh textiles on the map."

John Williams-Davies is Director of Museum Operations at Amgueddfa Cymru  -National Museum Wales. He said:

"We have no doubt Ann will successfully fulfil the role of Manager at the National Wool Museum. She has worked very hard on developing the collection itself and we are confident the Museum will grow under her leadership."
