Cardiff Community gets Creative

New ‘Journals’ Exhibition at St Fagans: National History Museum

St Fagans: National History Museum is hosting a free, drop-in workshop this Saturday, 12 January 2008 to launch its latest art exhibition, ‘Journals,’ which has been produced by women from across Cardiff and organised by Women’s Arts Association.

The event held at Oriel 1 gallery, St Fagans and the Schools’ Room from 11am – 4pm, will be lead by a professional team of artists including visual artist Ellie Reynish and printmaker Jane Taylor. It was these artists, alongside creative writer Susan Richardson and digital film-maker Aimee Timms, who encouraged groups of women from the Cardiff area to produce ‘Journals.’

The exhibition is a collection of diaries, prints and digital projections that represent the participants’ daily experiences, memories and dreams. Gemma Jayne Paine from Cardiff – one of the women who took part in ‘Journals’ - wrote the following poem:

“Art for arts sake, creative women in creative spaces.

Spontaneous. Paint, print,

words, digital. We are the

makers, the bakers, the

creators, the people who

can multi task.”

Open to anyone with an interest in trying something new and being creative with the support of professional artists, Saturday’s event is also an opportunity to find out more about how you can get involved in community projects and events run by Women’s Arts Association.

‘Journals’ is open for the public to enjoy at Oriel 1 - which is sponsored by the Principality Building Society - until 6 April 2008. Entry is free of charge.
