Cwmbach Male Choir to perform at St Fagans’ Café Bardi ahead of Italian tour

Visitors to St Fagans: National History Museum on 18 May 2008 will be greeted by an award winning choir, Cwmbach Male Choir, which will perform at the open air museum’s popular café ahead of its visit to Italy at the end of May.

Cwmbach Choir from the Cynon Valley is set to return to Italy this month following a successful trip North Eastern Italy in 2007. Organised with the support of Amici Val Ceno -  the South Wales Society of Bardi exiles, the choir’s visit to Bardi, Parma and San Remo will essentially begin at St Fagans’ Welsh-Italian themed coffee shop, Café Bardi.

“The name Café Bardi was chosen to highlight the Welsh-Italian community that exists in South Wales,” said Sioned Hughes, Curator at St Fagans: National History Museum. “It will be a real treat to have Côr Cwmbach, which through this initiative is highlighting the strong connection between both countries, perform at St Fagans.”

Cwmbach Choir formed in 1921 and was the first choir to be invited by the Welsh Rugby Union to perform at the Arms Park prior to an International rugby match. The choir has performed at many prestigious venues both in Wales and abroad including St David’s Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican and Thompson Hall in Toronto.

Looking forward to adding St Fagans to its list of locations, the choir will perform at St Fagans’ Oakdale Workmen’s Institute at 2pm & 3pm on Sunday, 18 May and will finish their visit at Café Bardi at 4pm.
