NMGW Welsh exam successes!

Eighteen NMGW members of staff have recently passed WJEC exams in the language, all achieving Grade 'A'.

They are:

Phil Tunnicliffe, Margaret A Williams, Arabella Smith, Jackie Chadwick, Carol Spackman, Chris Meechan, David Enright, Richard Manchip, Lisa Elliot, Julie Taylor, Sarah Greenhalgh, Julian Carter, Katrina Deering, all of whom are taught by Colin Murphy at NMG; Chris Perry, Mark Etheridge, Richard Davies and Judith Martin who have their own tutor at Nantgarw and Sharon Ford at Big Pit who studies at an external class.

The exams involved written and oral work, with a strong emphasis on spoken language.

Classes catering for all levels of ability are held at NMG every Thursday. The tutor is Colin Murphy who works as a Museum Assistant at MWL and teaches Welsh to staff at NMG and St Fagans. Colin is currently in the second year of a part time Welsh degree in Aberystwyth University. Three years ago, he was nominated in the category of best tutor of Welsh as a second language in the Welsh Digital College awards. Out of over 100 nominees, he was one of the three finalists and attended an awards ceremony in St Davids Hotel in Cardiff. He has taught Welsh on behalf of the Urdd, Cymdeithas yr Iaith and has also been Chairman of the committee for the local Meithrin. In his spare time, he compiles crosswords for Taf Elai magazine. Colin is a self—taught tutor and has tutored NMG and MWL classes for many years. His support for learners is unstinting and their success in these exams is a worthy demonstration of the high standard of tuition he has set and achieved.

Anyone wishing to learn or improve their Welsh should contact the HR Department on extension 3306. We will help with arrangements and funding for anyone to learn through whichever route they choose.
