STRIKE!

The latest edition of Big Pit's people's history magazine, GLO, will be launched this week to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the start of the 1984/5 Miners' Strike.

The magazine tells the stories of nineteen people whose lives were touched by the Strike in different ways, including striking miners, managers, miners' wives and children, politicians and police officers. It is the fourth in a series of magazines looking at subjects that are key to the coal industry in Wales; previous editions have focused on Bevin Boys, nationalisation of the industry and foreign workers in the Welsh coalfields.

Ceri Thompson, Curator at Big Pit said:

"So many people were touched by the Strike in Wales and there are a wealth of stories that have never been told in any great depth. In putting this edition together, we wanted to tell these stories and give a new perspective on this difficult period.

"The magazine does not seek to be a complete history of the Strike, it shows instead how different people reacted to the situations they found themselves in as a result of the industrial action."
