Stunning glass collections arrive at Swansea's Waterfront

A stunning exhibition featuring contemporary glass is being staged at Swansea's National Waterfront Museum.

On the Edge, which features artists from Ireland and South West England, will be on display from Sunday 5 April to Sunday 31 May and demonstrates the vast complexities and flexibilities of glass as a medium for self expression.

Showcasing the best of 2D and 3D contemporary work, all imaginable techniques are explored and taken to new dimensions. Some pieces are suspended with others freestanding, and there is lots of variety in size, surface pattern, colour and content.

Speaking about the exhibition, one of the curators Chinks Grylls, who also trained in Swansea in the early 80s, said: "We're delighted to be celebrating the work of these artists at the National Waterfront Museum.

"We decided on Swansea for its close topographical links with Ireland and the fact it is home to one of the best glass departments in Europe - Swansea Metropolitan University.

"This exhibition aims to promote creative dialogue and collaboration between Ireland, Wales and South West England showcasing the very best in contemporary work. Many of these artists are creating work for the public realm and we want to cement future link projects between the regions."

Head of Museum Steph Mastoris said: "This unique exhibition is an opportunity for our visitors to see a collection of new work by modern glass artists. The Colonnade area is also ideal to show off an exhibition like this with its fantastic natural lighting."
