A Moving Story

Create your own animated characters with artist Sean Harris

Mona - a new animated film, which brings to life objects, stories and experiences from the past - is currently being shown at National Museum Cardiff. To celebrate, the man behind the film, artist Sean Harris is inviting visitors to the Museum this weekend (23 - 25 May 2009) to help animate historical characters like those featured in Mona.

Become an artist from 11am - 4pm Saturday to Monday and help Sean Harris create a real animation including objects from Origins: In Search of Early Wales at National Museum Cardiff and warriors. You can then go and find the artefacts in the exhibition itself!

Sean Harris has now worked with Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales to create five films. Hela'r Twrch Trwyth was his first which he created in collaboration with the archaeology department and Mona is the latest release.

A mesmerising animation, Mona includes artefacts from Llyn Cerrig Bach, which are part of the Museum's collection and a vivid account of the first contact between Druids and Romans on Anglesey.

Heidi Evans from Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales said:

"This is a fantastic opportunity for participants to see important historical objects, which are usually static in our gallery, coming to life. We have worked with Sean Harris for a number of years and each of his projects demand the attention and a real engagement from young people."

The Whitsun event is suitable for the whole family and is free of charge (places bookable on arrival). The outcome will be displayed during the Festival of Archaeology in July. More information can be found at www.museumwales.ac.uk.

Mona can be viewed in the Origins temporary exhibition space until 16 August 2009.

National Museum Cardiff is one of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales' seven national museums. The others are St Fagans: National History Museum, the National Roman Legion Museum, Big Pit: National Coal Museum, the National Wool Museum, the National Slate Museum and the National Waterfront Museum.

Entry to each Museum is free thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.
