Roald Dahl inspires National Waterfront Museum

It's all about Roald Dahl this weekend at Swansea's National Waterfront Museum.

If you're familiar with snozzcumber sandwiches (BFG) or heard of frobscottle (BFG), then this weekend will be right up your street.

To mark both National Grandparents Day and National Roald Dahl Day, the Museum will host two special events inspired by one of Wales' most famous children's book authors.

On Sunday 13 September, those aged between 4 and 10 can take part in Sgwiggling Workshops (11am & 2pm), where they will join in a selection of drawing and creative writing activities all inspired by Roald Dahl.

The sessions will end with a trail around the galleries to find a golden ticket (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) which will gain them entrance into a special party to taste Roald Dahl inspired food such as snozzcumber sandwiches (BFG), chocolate cake (Matilda) and peach jelly (James and the Giant Peach).

Speaking about the workshop, Delyth Thomas, the Museum's events officer said: "The aim of this workshop is to highlight how fun and imaginative reading and writing can be. By us using the Roald Dahl theme, we've be able to design a series of fun activities based on popular stories all ages know and love."

Also on Sunday 13 September, a storytelling activity - Take your Granny - will take place from 1 to 4pm. This event will be a chance for grandparents to take their grandchildren to experience an afternoon of Roald Dahl storytelling. Extracts from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches and George's Marvellous Medicine will be on the list.

Delyth added: "We came up with this idea as it's an ideal activity for grandparents and their grandchildren to enjoy together. It's a drop-in session, so you can come along for as little or as long as you like."

Please book in advance for the Sgwiggling Workshops, contact (01792) 638950. Take your Granny is drop-in, so please see the reception desk on arrival.
