Record numbers visit National Wool Museum

The National Wool Museum in Dre-fach Felindre welcomed the most visitors ever in one day on Saturday 26 September, with 750 visitors.

A food festival was held at the Museum on that Saturday, arranged in partnership with Menter Gorllewin Sir Gâr with activities including cooking demonstrations and competitions, competitions for teams of children and young people, clog dancing workshop and performance along with the food stalls.

The cooking demonstrations were given by Gareth Richards from Lampeter with the cooking competition, led by Rhiannon Ainsworth, Head of Ysgol Aberbanc, between John Crossley of Teifi Valley Garden Machinery and Mark Rees of J. E. Rees & Sons, who both had the task of cooking a pancake.

Winners of the children’s competition, who had to create a face out of fruit, were Dion Jones and Tomos Evans of Ysgol Aberbanc, with Emily Lewis and Rowan Bristow from Ysgol Brynsaron second.

The winners of the competition for younger secondary school pupils were Charlie Hughson and Ella Hutchinson of Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, who had a challenge to connect produce with the different stalls present.

The older secondary school pupils had to cook a crepe and the winners were Ashleigh Bell and Amy Knols of Ysgol Gyfun Llambed. Sponsors of the competitions were E.H. Factors, J. E. Rees & Sons and Teifi Valley Garden Machinery.

Sixteen people of all ages took part in the clog dancing workshop, held by Nia Jones and Cerian Phillips of Aelwyd Hafodwennog, and gave a performance at the end.

Joanna Thomas, Acting Manager of the National Wool Museum said: “We are so pleased to have welcomed so many of the community into the Museum on this occasion, the numbers welcomed are tribute to the beautiful setting and atmosphere at the Museum as well as to the partnership work between ourselves, Menter Gorllewin Sir Gâr, schools in the area, local businesses and of course the community.

“We would like to thank the stall holders for a wonderful array of produce. The high standard of local produce is a tribute to the commitment of local businesses.”
