Packed roster of fun events at the Waterfront this Easter!

Welsh Harlequin ducks, free range chickens, Easter egg hunts and a save the egg challenge are just a few things taking place at the National Waterfront Museum this Easter.

Kicking things off on Good Friday (2 April) and Easter Monday (5 April) is the Great Museum Easter Egg Hunt. With a special Alice in Wonderland theme, visitors will have the exciting task of helping the March Hare find his beautiful decorative eggs which will be carefully hidden around the Museum. Alice will also be on hand to help, and those taking part will have the chance to make a pouch to store their final chocolate prize.

“It’s all very exciting,” said Events Officer, Miranda Berry. “This is the first time the Museum has hosted an Easter egg hunt and with the added help of the March Hare and Alice in Wonderland, it’s all set to be a very theatrical, interactive, fun event.”

The fun will then continue with a visit from Henrietta and Jemima - ducks and chickens who will come to stay in the Museum’s courtyard garden over the next two weeks (2-18 April). Visitors will be able to see them as well as discover how to keep chickens in an urban environment with a talk by Chris Jones, Manger of Swansea’s Community Farm on Sunday 11 April at 2.30pm.

Linking in with Future Foods - a touring exhibition from the Science Museum, London which is currently on display in the Museum’s main hall, visitors can put their creative skills to the test and design their own food for the future. The drop-in workshops will take place from 6-18 April between 11am-1pm and 2-4pm each day.

Gener8 - a regular workshop designed for budding engineers - will take place on 3 & 4 April at 1.30pm with a Save the Egg Challenge. Using a fragile egg, those attending will use basic engineering principles to come up with suitable packages to wrap their eggs before launching them off the Museum's balcony. The test will be if the eggs crack or stay in one piece!

“We’re delighted with our events package this Easter,” said Steph Mastoris, Head of Museum. “There’s something for everyone - from taking part in egg hunts to just popping in for a coffee to enjoy the views of Swansea Marina. It really is an excellent place to explore Wales’ story of industry and innovation as well as some free Easter-inspired activities!”
