Discover the craft of traditional rope making

Ever wondered how traditional skipping ropes are made? Well now you can find out by popping into the National Waterfront Museum all this week (1-4pm until Friday 13 August).

As part of the activities planned to keep boredom at bay and kids entertained during the holidays, gallery assistants will be demonstrating how to make a skipping rope using a modern replica of a traditional rope-making machine that dates back to the medieval period.

“This is a great hands-on workshop for families and highlights just how ropes that were so essential to the industrial and maritime history of Wales were made,” said Head of Museum, Steph Mastoris. “It’s already proving extremely popular with over 1800 visitors popping in yesterday (Monday 9 August) to see it in full swing and have a go themselves!”

The free drop-in workshops will be taking place until Friday 13 August from 1-4pm.
