AD 2004: The Celts Invade Roman Caerleon

The Romans have ruled Caerleon for almost 2,000 years, but with the National Eisteddfod in Newport this year, the Celts are back.

To celebrate, the Roman Legionary Museum is putting on a week of activities on 2-6 August with a Celtic theme.

Get messy with wattle and daubing or try your hand at some Celtic artwork; have your face painted like a Celtic warrior or practice your spear throwing.

The Museum will also be on the Maes at the Eisteddfod, providing fun activities for families looking around, and will be running buses between the Maes and the Museum on Wednesday and Thursday (4-5 August). There will be two talks at RLM that week, one on Newport's Industrial history and the other looking at the Romans and Celts in Caerleon.

The Celtic week activities are drop in between 11am and 4pm, but or more information call 01633 423134. The talks will be advertised on the Maes during Eisteddfod week.

Entry to the museum is free thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.
