National Waterfront Museum Launches Hen Crafternoons

In response to the current trend for all things vintage, Swansea’s National Waterfront Museum has launched a range of hen party packages using old-fashioned craft and jewellery making as a theme.

The Waterfront Hen Crafternoons are being launched on weekends this summer and it is hoped that those with an artistic flair as well as brides planning a vintage themed wedding will take advantage of the packages on offer.

Brides and their entourages can choose from one of three creatively themed sessions lead by a specialist Craft Facilitator. The Vintage Home package will see groups creating pieces such as upholstered pin boards, quirky pincushions and handmade-lavender filled hearts to hang on doors handles. Those wishing to wear something they have made can select the Upcycled Jewellery package and create corsages, necklaces and hair accessories using vintage fabrics, lace and embellishments.

For brides who are carrying the vintage theme throughout their wedding day, the Wedding Crafts & Décor package is a must. Hens can help the bride in making DIY decorations including handmade bunting, garden tea-light holders made from upcycled jam jars and quirky table confetti made from recycled books and vintage wallpaper.

Delyth Thomas, Venue Hire Officer at the National Waterfront Museum said: “In recent years we’ve noticed a real trend towards vintage themed weddings across the Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales sites with many ceremonies at the National Waterfront Museum being inspired by old-fashioned styling. Following on from the success of the Vintage Hen Party packages at St Fagans, we wanted to launch something similar for brides and their friends in Swansea. Coupled with our vintage themed catering packages, we are sure these events will appeal to hen parties looking for a fun and creative afternoon.”

Specialist heritage caterers, Elior, have created some afternoon tea and drinks packages to be served at the Crafternoons. Ladies can even choose to have jugs of Pimms and lemonade served with fresh fruit or selection of wine options including Marquis de la Tour sparkling wine.

All art and craft materials are supplied. Prices start at just £22 per head and packages are available most weekends between 12.30-4.30pm. For more information about the Waterfront Hen Crafternoons contact 029 2057 3600 or visit http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/waterfronthens/
