Autumn fun at the National Roman Legion Museum

Ah, autumn, the smell of bonfires, fireworks and fish sauce… wait a minute, fish sauce?! Yes, visitors to the National Roman Legion Museum this half term (27-31 October) will be able to see the rotten, bloody and mouldy side of Roman life in their ‘Gore Blimey!’ workshops (11am – 4pm with last entry at 3.30pm and cost £2 per child). Let’s hope you’ve got a strong stomach!

Families are always looking for somewhere to take the kids during the holidays, and where better than a Museum where they can get their hands dirty in the ‘Pus Game’?!

Events Officer, Victoria Le Poidevin said, “It’s an opportunity for children and families to learn about Roman food and medicine in a fun and different way. The ‘Smelly Game’ where you get to smell nice and nasty smells from the Roman times is truly revolting!”

And to top off half term the museum will be putting on a  Halloween party on 31 October, 6-8pm, where guests will be scared in the temple with ‘Nemesis’,  chased in the Garden by the ‘Lemures’ an evil Roman spirit and have the chance to hunt bats. And the night is finished off with a fancy dress competition, the more home-made the better!Halloween tickets cost £3.50 per person and can be bought by phoning the Museum on (029) 20573550.

Museum Manager, Dai Price, said, ‘Halloween is our favourite night of the year. We love coming up with scary games and activities for families to enjoy and it provides a safe place for kids to run about and get into the spirit of things without being on the streets.’
