Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales has bought a significant eighteenth-century painting Portrait of a Lady (Miss Mary Jenkins?) by the ‘father of British landscape painting’, Richard Wilson, thanks to support from Art Fund. The museum already holds the largest collection of works by Richard Wilson in the UK, and this painting is a significant addition to the collection.

Sighting of a dinosaur at Big Pit!

This morning (Tuesday, 4 July 2017), giant, razor sharp dinosaur claws, footprints and a dinosaur eye were spotted at Big Pit National Coal Museum. They are thought to be those of the missing dinosaur, which was on the loose around the centre of Cardiff last month but then made a home for itself at the Dinosaur Babies exhibition at National Museum Cardiff - another of Wales’ national museums.

Giant, razor sharp dinosaur claws were spotted on top of National Museum Cardiff in the civic centre this morning (Friday, 30 June 2017). They are thought to be those of the missing dinosaur, which was on the loose around the centre of Cardiff last month but then made a home for itself at the Museum’s Dinosaur Babies exhibition.

Amgueddfa Cymru looking for designers for the National Eisteddfod 2018 Chair

Following the official ceremony announcement that the National Eisteddfod will take place in Cardiff in 2018, we are already thinking towards the Chairing Ceremony. St Fagans National Museum of History celebrates its 70th birthday in 2018, and to help mark this the national institution has decided to sponsor the Chair. This week sees the beginning of the process of appointing a designer or maker to create the Chair.

Fans of the Queen of Crime are in for a treat this summer as National Museum Cardiff opens its new Agatha Christie exhibition. Featuring rarely seen photographs from the author’s private collection, Agatha Christie: A Life in Photographs illustrates the life behind the works of the most widely published author of all time. The exhibition is at National Museum Cardiff from 17 June to 3 September 2017.

‘From the cradle to the grave’, the NHS is part of our lives. Yet no single museum tells the story of this incredible institution. Historians from the University of Warwick – funded by the Wellcome Trust – have been touring the UK to gather peoples first hand experiences and attitudes towards the National Health Service. They need your help to create a virtual museum of the NHS.
