Stretch Little Legs & Imagination at St Fagan's New Play Area

With the sun shining at the beginning of Pre-school playweek, where better to give those little couch potatoes a day of sweet fresh air and plenty of exercise for both their minds and bodies, than in the 100 acres of rolling fields, lanes and parklands at the Museum of Welsh Life?. With thousands of young children and their parents enjoying the site each year, St Fagan's has further developed its children's play area with a brand new playground for the youngest members of the family.

Colour and Light: 50 Impressionist works at the National Museum of Wales

Dr Colin Bailey, Chief Curator at New York's famous Frick Collection, tonight spoke at the US launch of Colour and Light, an impressive new book outlining the history of the world-acclaimed Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art collection at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. He said:

"This is the first book on Cardiff's collection to be published for over twenty years. Having been to Cardiff myself, I am delighted that the National Museum of Wales has brought this book here to New York to launch. I congratulate the author Ann Sumner and the Museum on this excellent book."

Best week ever for UK's top museum

Big Pit: National Mining Museum of Wales celebrated a bumper week with a record number of visitors coming through the doors, last week. Between 30 May and 5 June, 6836 people visited this top Museum in Blaenafon, a week after Big Pit was named at the winner of this year's prestigious Gulbenkian prize for Museum of the Year.

Lots of steam for a centenary celebration

The Welsh Slate Museum Llanberis hosts a special show on the weekend of 18–19 June to celebrate the centenary of its steam engine UNA. The event, which is sure to attract rail enthusiasts, offers an opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy the magic of steam. Visitors will be able to ride on miniature steam trains brought together specifically for the celebration.
