Local pupils get creative for national Takeover Day

Last week (Thurs 12 Nov) local school pupils took over the National Waterfront Museum as part of Kids in Museum’s annual takeover day.

This autumn sees a major new exhibition by one of Wales’ leading contemporary artists, Ivor Davies. Silent Explosion: Ivor Davies and Destruction in Art opens at National Museum Cardiff on Saturday 14 November – 20 March 2016 and reveals Davies’ enduring interest in the creative power of destruction and features work in various media including painting, sculpture and performance, spanning the artist’s career from the 1940s through to the present day.

New Community Museum for Penderry Ward

The National Waterfont Museum in Swansea is helping local community groups create their very own community museum.

Working with a range of organisations including City & County of Swansea’s Communities First, Grŵp Gwalia, Penlan Library, Welsh Glamorgan Archives and Kids in Museums, the museum will be dedicated to the lives of those from the Penderry Ward.

Museums across Wales are getting ready to celebrate and promote Wales’ outstanding cultural offer at the second Welsh Museums Festival from 24 October – 1 November.

Over 100 events and exhibitions will be on offer for the whole family from sleepovers, talks, walks, hunts and handling sessions to archaeologist digs, re-enactments, dressing up, tea parties and Halloween themed activities.
