Travel back in time with our newest character in residence! It’s May 1972 and Wil, a former fitter in the engineering workshops here, is preparing for his first day of work as a guide when the brand-new museum opens

5 Decades of History - Online Talk

A lot is collected in 50 years! Museum Curator Cadi Iolen will identify one key object from each decade that helps to interpret the history of the slate industry in this online talk.

What's wood got to do with it?  

Join our former Carpenter at the museum, Peredur Hughes, on this fascinating talk and tour about the role wood played in the history of the museum.

Traditional crafts of wood, slate and metal have always been a key part of the Gilfach Ddu. Come and discover the history of the incredible craftsmen and the expertise behind them.

Workshops

Create your own artwork inspired by the folk art of quarrymen with Siân.

Try your hand at creating a bird feed holder from willow with Eirian.

Marvel at the amazing craft of splitting and dressing the slate, as one of our experienced craftsmen slice the slate in front of your eyes.

Come see the hustle and bustle of the Forge alive with sparks again with our resident blacksmith Liam and three other craftsmen at work.

In Conversation with Dr Dafydd Roberts and Cadi Iolen  

Join former Museum Keeper Dr Dafydd Roberts as he chats with Cadi Iolen about his career and the role of the Museum in interpreting the history of the slate industry.
