Curator: Botany (Vascular Plants)

Areas of Responsibility:

Responsible for collections management of the vascular plants in the Welsh National Herbarium (which has particular strengths in Rubus, Hieracium, Taraxacum and Sorbus). Manage specimen loans and data queries for this collection area. Research relating to poppies, Rhododendron. Involved in public engagement to a wide range of audiences, including be a key member of the Urban Meadow City Bees project team.

Qualifications, memberships and relevant positions

MPhil on the cytotaxonomy of Rhododendron subsections Heliolepida and Triflora. Member and (since 2010) co-editor of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland Welsh Bulletin. Also member of Plant Life, Rhododendron Species Conservation Group, Natural Sciences Collections Association (NATSCA) and the Porcupine Marine Natural History Society.

Research Interests

Research into a wide range of botanical topics for Natural Science exhibitions and outreach events – how the botany collections can be best displayed and used for these.

Research into the poppy – key curator for the currently touring exhibition Poppies for Remembrance.
