This one day course is a chance to try your hand at indigo dyeing in the inspirational setting of Gweithdy, the Museum’s new workshop and gallery celebrating the skills of makers past and present. Under the guidance of local textile artist Cat Lewis, you’ll learn the basic techniques of natural indigo dyeing and pattern making.

The price of the course includes all materials required – but you are welcome to bring your own fabrics too, as you can never have too much! Ideas include napkins, a t shirt, pillow case, a summer dress, linen trousers, scarves, a shopping bag or a table runner. The items don’t have to be white, in fact, some of the most interesting transformations happen on items originally with a print or other colour. Loved, gently used or stained items are also a great choice. Check the labels of the items to make sure they are made from natural fibres such as cotton, bamboo, hemp, wool, linen, viscose or silk.

Aprons will be provided but you need to wear clothing that you do not mind getting a drip or two of dye on!

Light refreshments will be provided. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit our on-site catering facilities. The price of this course includes parking – collect your parking pass from the reception desk on arrival.
