Course: 2-Day Course: Make a Wooden Stool

This two day course is a chance to try your hand at furniture making in the inspirational setting of St Fagans National Museum of History. You’ll use hand tools and traditional techniques to create your own 3-legged stool using hardwood timber from a locally sourced supplier.  The course tutor is Chris Williams, maker of the 2018 Cardiff National Eisteddfod chair inspired by the collections at St Fagans.

Day one 10.15am-4pm

  • Introduction
  • Create and shape stool top and legs
  • Plane legs to octagonal profile
  • Create mortise and tenon joints

Day two 10.15am-4pm

  • Drill stool tops
  • Glue joints and level legs
  • Sand and wax finish stool

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners - the price includes all materials and equipment required to complete your stool.

Light refreshments will be provided. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit our on-site catering facilities. The price of this course includes parking – collect your parking pass from the reception desk on arrival.

All tickets for this event must be purchased in advance. This is a two day course and you must be available for two consecutive days on the dates shown.

Language: This course will be held in English but we are happy to provide simultaneous translation if you would like to take part in Welsh. Please choose a ticket in your language of choice, making sure you have one ticket for each person. Please book your tickets at least one week before the event.

Accessibility: Some of the Museum's learning spaces are up to 5 minute walk from the main building and carpark – please contact events@museumwales.ac.uk prior to booking to discuss any accessibility requirements.

Suitable age*: 16+ (16-18 year olds must be accompanied by a participating adult)

Concession eligibility: Students with NUS or those in receipt of benefits, over 60s, under 18’s* (16-18 year olds must be accompanied by a participating adult)
