St Dwynwen's Day is celebrated in Wales on 25 January and commemorates the patron saint of friendship and love. We’ve got some special half-day craft courses inspired by the love tokens in our Museum collections.

Make a felt lovespoon

Textile artist Lisa Porch will introduce you to the craft of machine embroidery. You will explore the three themes of texture, text and pattern. Using these techniques you’ll create your very own fabric lovespoon. Suitable for beginners – sewing machine and all materials provided.

Price: £35 / £30 concession



Stitch a Valentine  CANCELLED

Hand embroidery and cross stitch are the hottest way to customise textiles or make a style statement. Under the guidance of Charlotte from Twinmade – you’ll learn skills to stich your own special love token. Sweet and simple, fresh and fruity, or loud and proud – you’ll be totally Valentine’s ready! Suitable for beginners – all equipment and materials provided.

Make an enamel love token

Local artist Sophie Buckingham will introduce you to the craft of enamelling and help you explore mark-making techniques using stencils, scraffito and embellishments. Get inspired by the lovespoons in the Museum’s collections and create your own unique love tokens through the medium of kiln-fired vitreous enamel on copper. Suitable for beginners – all equipment and materials provided.

Cost: £35 / £30 concession



Language: these courses will be held in English but we are happy to provide simultaneous translation if you would like to take part in Welsh. Please choose a ticket in your language of choice, making sure you have one ticket for each person. Please book your tickets at least one week before the event.

Accessibility: some of the Museum's learning spaces are up to a 5-minute walk from the main building and car park – please contact events@museumwales.ac.uk prior to booking to discuss any accessibility requirements.

Concession eligibility: students with NUS card or those in receipt of benefits. Over 60s, under 18s* (16-18 year olds must be accompanied by a participating adult).

Parking and refreshments: the price of your course includes parking and light refreshments. Please collect your parking pass from the reception desk on arrival.
