Exhibition: Legacy of Longfields

National Waterfront Museum
21 May–3 June 2018
Cost Free
Suitability All

An exhibition to examine and share the heritage of Longfields Association, Swansea, a pioneering disability charity established in 1952.

In 1944 Parliament passed an education act which aimed to provide equality of opportunity to all children, including disabled children.

Many children with cerebral palsy were judged by physical impairment while intellectual ability was largely ignored. This resulted in many denied the opportunity to attend school.

This exhibition tells how parents campaigned to change a medical view that excluded their children from eduation.
