It is hard to believe that the land where the National Waterfront Museum is today was part of the windswept seashore common land where the burgesses allowed their pigs and geese to graze. For about 700 years Swansea hardly spread beyond its medieval walls.

This is the story of its church and castle, of its busy market and thriving riverside quay, and of its people – the ordinary folk, as well as the lords and portreeves.
