Course: The 1950s: The end of empire, the beginning of a social revolution


From post-war austerity to the Festival of Britain, from Suez to Elvis: a decade of conflicting ideologies and a youth revolution. This revolutionary change was evident in the arts, theatre, cinema and popular culture throughout Europe and America. This was a decade that began with attempts to return to the political values of an imperial past and ended with the dawning of the Sixties.
