Often called the Welsh Potato basket it is part of the Celtic frame basket tradition. This is a very satisfying basket to make. It is a deep, strong and flat based basket; used on the farm for vegetable collection, animal feed or in the farmhouse for laundry. Your handmade basket will last for decades of use in your home and garden. It requires a set of ribs prepared on a ‘D’ shaped forma and a thick round hoop. You will learn how to prepare the ribs and hoop on a shaving horse as well as how to construct and weave the basket. The Cyntell can be made from hazel or willow; we will be using semi-green barked willow from the Woollen Museum’s own willow bed. We will be working outdoors in the wind shed.
