Work Experience

Registration is now closed for summer 2024 work experience opportunities.

Are you a sixth form student that has an interest in history and heritage? Do you want to learn about the variety of jobs or career opportunities in museum settings?

Work experience is currently being trialled for sixth form students (year 12) at:

  • the National Slate Museum, Llanberis for 2-3 students.
  • the National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon for 2-3 students.

We will be offering students one week of work experience around the third week in July. You will need your own transport to and from your museum of choice, although we may be able to subsidise bus expenses.

We are looking for sixth form students with:

  • An interest in Welsh history, particularly relating to your chosen museum.
  • A willingness to get involved.
  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills.

What can you gain from the role?

You will have the opportunity to spend time with different departments at the museum. This could be shadowing our visitor facing teams, our learning department, or work behind the scenes with marketing or the collection and curators. Each day will be different, and you will find out more about the operations of a museum. You will help with tasks such as:

  • Welcoming and assisting visitors.
  • Writing marketing content, such as blogs or articles.
  • Computer-based research or data entry.
  • Helping with the preparation of learning activities.
  • Stocking shelves in the shop.
  • Conservation or collections cleaning.

How to apply?

Registration has now closed for 2024. We will update this page for opportunities in 2025 in due course.
