Mackerel in Sauce

Criccieth, Gwynedd

A delicious dish served for supper during the summer months.

Cricieth, Caernarvonshire.

The Recipe

You will need

  • two or three mackerel
  • three or four medium size onions
  • three tablespoonfuls white vinegar
  • one bay leaf
  • a little garlic
  • a little olive oil

Method

  1. Clean the mackerel and fry them well on both sides. 
  2. Fillet them, and remove all bones and skin.
  3. Slice the onions and fry them in the oil together with the garlic and bay leaf until brown. 
  4. Allow them to cool before adding the vinegar.
  5. When cold, place the mackerel in a dish and pour the sauce over them.
