Buttermilk Scones

The Recipe

You will need

  • one pound plain flour
  • three or four ounces butter
  • three ounces sugar
  • a little bicarbonate of soda
  • buttermilk

Method

  1. Rub the butter into the flour, and work in the other dry ingredients. 
  2. Mix with buttermilk and knead to a soft dough.
  3. Roll out on a floured board and cut into small rounds, approximately a quarter of an inch thick. 
  4. Bake on a moderately hot bakestone and serve warm.
