Buttermilk Scone

Llandeilo’r-fân and Heol Senni, Breconshire

The Recipe

You will need

  • one pound plain flour
  • quarter pound lard
  • a little salt
  • buttermilk

Method

  1. Rub the lard into the flour and salt, mix with buttermilk and knead to a soft dough. 
  2. Roll out on a floured board to make a large round of about a quarter of an inch thick, or alternatively cut into small rounds. 
  3. Bake on a moderately hot bakestone.
  4. Spread with butter and serve warm.
