Aunt Martha’s Pudding
Gower
This pudding, being inexpensive to prepare, was eaten fairly regularly by the thrifty families.
Gower Peninsula.
The Recipe
You will need
- five ounces bread-crumbs
- one egg, well beaten
- two ounces butter
- two ounces sugar
- one lemon
- one cupful milk
- quarter pound raisins
- nutmeg
Method
- Boil the milk and pour it over the sugar and bread-crumbs.
- Then add the beaten egg, the rind and juice of the lemon, the butter and the nutmeg.
- Beat well for several minutes.
- Grease a pudding basin thickly with butter, dot the raisins in this butter layer and pour the mixture into the basin.
- Stand the basin in a saucepan with boiling water and boil for approximately one and a half hours.
