Pouring cold milk over the apple dumplings

The Recipe

You will need

  • eight ounces stale bread-crumbs
  • two ounces shredded suet
  • threequarter pound blackberries
  • threequarter pound apples, sliced
  • three ounces sugar
  • half a pint milk

Method

  1. Soak the bread-crumbs in the milk, add the suet and mix well. 
  2. Place a layer of this mixture on the bottom of a well-greased pie dish, and cover with a layer of blackberries and apple. 
  3. Continue to fill the dish with alternate layers of bread-crumb mixture and fruit, the final one being a thick layer of the bread-crumb mixture. 
  4. Bake in a moderately hot oven for approximately one hour until golden brown.
