Caraway Bread

Oven peel

The Recipe

You will need

  • one pound plain flour
  • a little baking powder
  • one teaspoonful salt
  • half a tablespoon caraway seeds
  • one ounce sugar
  • two and a half ounces butter
  • one egg
  • quarter pint milk

Method

  1. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl, rub in the butter and add the other dry ingredients. 
  2. Beat the egg and milk together and gradually pour into the dry ingredients, mixing well to make a light dough. 
  3. Put this dough into a greased tin and bake in a moderately hot oven for approximately one hour.
