The Recipe
You will need
- a thick slice of bread
- one or two eggs
- half a pint of milk
- a little nutmeg, ginger and sugar
Method
- Break the bread into a saucepan, whisk the eggs and pour over the bread together with the milk.
- Add the nutmeg, ginger and sugar to taste.
- Heat the mixture over a low flame but do not boil.
- Alternatively put the mixture in a dish and bake in a moderately hot oven.

- Break the bread into a bowl, and pour the eggs, well beaten, and the hot milk over it.
- Add sugar or salt, to taste.
- Cover the bowl with a plate and leave to stand for a few minutes before serving.
