Nettle Beer

This drink was regarded as an excellent tonic.

The Recipe
You will need
- half a pound young nettle leaves
- four ounces hops
- half a pound sugar
- one lemon, sliced
- one ounce ginger
- one ounce cream of tartar
- a little yeast
Method
- Cover the leaves and hops with water and boil thoroughly.
- Strain the liquid and leave to cool to blood heat, before adding the remaining ingredients.
- Finally add a little yeast and allow to ferment overnight.
- Strain, pour into bottles and cork securely.
