Beech tree (Fagus sylvatica L.), foliage and catkins at Ruperra Castle with Colonel Frederick Courtenay Morgan, 1898
This is a copy of a photograph taken by Miss Ella K. Millar, the Housekeeper at Ruperra Castle. The inscription written beside the original photo reads as follows "Big beech 6 foot from ground, 38 feet before gale, 1898. After gale with the limb broken off 23 feet 6 inches. Girth almost 15 feet. The figure in the photograph is Colonel Morgan". Colonel Frederick Courtenay Morgan, whose family owned the Castle, lived there until his death in 1909.
