The inscription dates to the first half of the 6th century. There is also a later 7th-9th century ring cross that was added to the top of the stone. It was discovered in c.1860 as a window lintel. For sometime after being removed, it acted as a foot stool for the bell ringer and was moved to its present position inside the church before 1909. This photograph suggested that the move took place by the 1890s. Amgueddfa Cymru has a cast of the stone in its collection.
