Join us for a STEM filled workshop to discover the history and science of coal mine explosions. Discover how chemical reactions underground affect safety in coal mines. Explore how matter such as gas and dust react to create an explosion, and the historical development of the coal industry in Wales.

During this facilitated workshop pupils will witness experiments that show how explosions underground happened and how devastating they could be.

ℹ️ About this session

The session demonstrates dust explosions which do make loud noises and flashes of light when ignited. Please let us know when you are booking if you have any pupils that would be sensitive to these experiences, and we will do our best to make everyone feel comfortable.
