Make & Do

Kite Making

Create a homemade kite inspired by Charles Sims, to fly on a sunny breezy spring day!

You will need:

Material for the body of the kite. E.g. tissue paper, scraps of an old plastic bag, newspaper or magazines pages. See what you can find and utilise!

Scissors

String

Sellotape

Strips of cardboard (you could also use paper straws or sticks)

Materials for decoration (optional)

Instructions:

1. Begin by constructing a long sturdy cross. Ensure that it is bound securely with Sellotape. This is the structure for your kite.

2. Create your kite design and secure it to the structure with Sellotape.

3. Strengthen the outer edges. We used cardboard strips.

4. Attach a tail! We used string and decorated it with ribbon.
