Our Footprint
We aim to understand and reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact across our sites.
Seren scheme
We have achieved phase 3 of the BS8555 Seren standard accreditation in recognition of our effective environmental management.
Electricity consumption
We reduced electricity consumption by over 50% at National Museum Cardiff between 2006 and 2018, and 2019–20 also saw an 11.36% reduction in electricity consumption on previous years.
Carbon literacy training
We have launched an innovative training course for all Amgueddfa Cymru staff to learn about carbon literacy and how we can all play a part in safeguarding our environment.
Buildings Management System
We have installed a fully automated Buildings Management System at each museum to monitor conditions, and improve energy use and environmental conditions.
Café supplies
All suppliers at the National Slate Museum café are based in Wales and 100% of the takeaway items sold are compostable.
Our shops
The soft toys stocked at Amgueddfa Cymru shops have a filling made from 100% recycled water bottles and instead of plastic toys, sustainable alternatives are used.
Committed to reducing the amount of plastic we use
We have stopped using individual sauce sachets at the National Waterfront Museum café, saving 83,000 plastic sachets per year.
Declaration of climate emergency
In 2019, we joined others in declaring a global climate and ecological emergency. We are committed to safeguarding our natural environment, embedding sustainability in all that we do and protecting nature for future generations.
