Explore the fascinating and sometimes gruesome world of Roman medicine, from herbal remedies to horsehair stitches, and even amputations! Discover what role the Roman gods played in healing the sick in this interactive and lively roleplay session.
Visit Isca’s ‘Medicus’, the Roman doctor responsible for treating the soldiers at the Fortress. Become one of the Medicus’ patients and learn about how they would have treated your headache, your tooth pain, your battle wounds, and more!
This session covers a range of injuries, illness, and treatments – often a little gory!
‘Medicus’ has been specifically developed for a Primary audience, but we recognise that there may be some pupils (and occasionally some teachers too!) with difficulties discussing wounds and blood.
Please let us know when you are booking if you have any pupils that would be sensitive to these experiences, and we will do our best to make everyone feel comfortable!
Humanities: Enquiry, exploration and investigation inspire curiosity about the world, its past, present and future.
To make a booking and talk to someone about this session phone (029) 2057 3546 or email learning.romans@museumwales.ac.uk
