Museum Workshop

Science at the Waterfront | Sinking and floating

🔍 Discover and Explore

Discover the exciting story of Wales’s maritime history. The Industrial Revolution in Wales began with the Sea. Welsh docks became the gateway of Welsh wealth, and a Seaworthy ship was essential.

Become a crew of engineers to investigate what makes a ship float, balance and move. Explore ideas such as buoyancy, material properties, shape and stability.

✏️Take part

Pupils will handle real items and put their knowledge to the test by building their own foil ship model and testing it to see if it would sink or float. Explore ideas such as buoyancy, material properties, shape and stability.
