In this session you will take on the role of a person from a coal mining community and explore how they could have been affected by a strike at their local coal mine.

Pupils will empathise and learn about the challenges faced by a whole community during a strike.

Colliers and Coal Owners discusses themes of health and injury and has some reference to death. 

This is an interactive session that has physical elements. Please let us know when you are booking if you have any pupils that would be sensitive to these experiences, and we will do our best to make everyone feel comfortable!

• Explain the ideas and concepts whilst exploring the history of miners’ strikes in Wales. 

• Think creatively to reframe and solve problems by investigating the complex history of the community impact of miners’ strikes in Wales. 

• Develop knowledge about their culture, community, society and the world, now and in the past by learning about the history of the protest in Wales.

• Understand and exercise their human and democratic responsibilities and rights, by discovering more about Welsh mining communities.
